Sport England & Facebook join forces!

Sport England & Facebook join forces!

Sport England and Facebook have announced a new partnership that will transform the way sports bodies engage with participants as they deliver a lasting Olympic legacy of one million people playing more sport. Central to this new way of working is the new Facebook ‘Sport Hub’ which enables NGBs to engage with over 20 million people who use Facebook in the UK. The ‘Hub’ looks and feels like a Facebook fan page but offers a range of new applications, enabling NGBs to organise and market grassroots sports events. Facebook users are able to challenge other people in their area to compete against them – whether in a squash match or a running race – and then share the results with their Facebook friends and networks >>more

On Wednesday 16th September 10 extremely excited boys from Newlaithes Junior School, Carlisle boarded the coach to take them to Loughborough for the first ever National Golf Roots Festival final. DID YOU KNOW...

At the first Olympics of the modern era in 1896, swimmers had to contend with 12-feet waves.

The Greek tradition of competing naked started in 720 BC. It was meant as a tribute to the gods and to encourage aesthetic appreciation of the male body. Our word 'gymnasium' is derived from the Greek 'gymnos' meaning naked.

Poodle-clipping was introduced in the Paris Games of 1900 (- a farmer's wife won gold, trimming 17 poodles in two hours).

The longest ever Olympics were held in London in 1908, lasting 187 days.
