RFL 'Touchline Managers' Qualify
Held in conjunction with Whitehaven RLFC and the RFL two courses were held at the club in early October, Head Coach Ged Stokes with players Ade Adebesi, Andy Gorski along with representatives from Egremont Rangers, Frizington ARLFC, West Cumbria u18s all qualified as “Touchline Managers”. Innovative projects that will transform the places where people take part in sport have secured investment through Sport England's new Sustainable Facilities Fund. Sport England launched the programme to encourage multi-sport developments that are viable in the long term, delivered through partnerships between public, private and commercial organisations. Rugby Sevens admitted to the Olympic Programme for 2016
The IOC executive board has voted to admit rugby sevens to the Olympic programme for 2016. Rugby union is played in more than 100 countries, from Andorra to Zambia. Many of the smaller nations already use sevens as a stepping stone to the full 15-a-side version of the game. As the Sevens World Series so often shows, the standard of play throughout the world is steadily increasing. £14 million revamp plan for Carlisle's Sands Centre
There are plans for a 25m swimming pool to replace the main pool at The Pools in James Street, while a new sports hall will free up the existing hall as a venue for shows and conferences. The gym will be enlarged and a “school of sport” provided for the University of Cumbria. The first phase – the sports hall and new entrance – should be ready early in 2011. Dowdales School gain RFL 13 Aside Match Official award
Pictured are pupils from Dowdales School, Dalton in Furness after successfully gaining a RFL 13 Aside Match Official award, the course held in partnership with the RFL culminated in 9 students gaining the qualification. “The newly qualified officials will have an opportunity to officiate over the coming weeks and put the skills and knowledge which they have acquired into practice” said Peter Wharton the RFL`s Match Official Development Officer for the region.
